How to paint a refrigerator

You may want to change the color of your existing refrigerator to look better than the rest of your kitchen. Or, maybe you just bought a refrigerator and it doesn’t match your stove. But whatever it is, you can easily paint your fridge with some special paint and a little information. It doesn’t matter if your refrigerator is white, Harvest Gold, Avocado Green, or if it has a stainless steel surface, it can be painted.

First of all, you don’t need to paint the back of your device. All you need to do is paint the front, top, and sides. The back is painted black by the manufacturer, so it sometimes needs to be repainted. (Refrigerators are painted black on the back because it helps certain colored coils to dissipate heat. If the sides do not show, paint the front.

To start this project, you must first decide what color you want your refrigerator to be. Then, go to your local home supply store and buy paint that is specifically designed to be used on appliances. You need to buy paint equipment because it is designed to heat and cold without cracking and peeling. This type of paint comes either in a spray-type or in a box that you apply with a brush.

The next step is to clean the outside of your refrigerator, at least the surfaces you are going to paint. Surfaces should be cleaned of dust, dirt, smoke, grease, food stains, etc. so that the paint stays on the surface properly. You can use some old rags and a window cleaning spray bottle to get this done.

Now, before applying the paint, you will need to inspect the surfaces of your equipment to see if there are any nicks, scratches or rust stains. If you find any of these, you will need to lighten them with light sandpaper to harden them. Be careful not to sand the paint around the nicks, scratches, or rust. Then, wipe the dust off the sandpaper with a clean damp cloth.

The next step is to use the painter’s masking tape to cover the refrigerator handles. (Regular masking tape is more sticky, and therefore more difficult to remove after a paint job. That’s why it’s best to use special masking tape for this project.) Carefully apply any chrome trim and any brand markings. Tap Device too. Use a painter’s masking tape to cover the rubber seals on the outside – along with the door, at the top, bottom, and sides.

Carefully apply a few strips of tape to the back of the refrigerator. This happens when you paint the sides, the paint will not spray too much or it will spread on the coils otherwise. And, finally, mask the front bottom panel so the paint doesn’t work under your refrigerator.

Now you are ready to start painting your devices. Read and follow the manufacturer’s instructions on the paintbox to ensure a quality application. After the first coat is completely dry, you may need to spray or brush on the second coat of paint, depending on the current color of your refrigerator and how good the first coat is.

Once the paint is dry, you only need to remove the painter’s masking tape, and the project is finished.
