Beaded fairy charms are fast becoming a trendy fashion accessory. They look amazing when worn on necklaces, bracelets, or when used as zipper pulls. You can enjoy making your very own beaded fairy charms to accessorize your stylish wardrobe. They’re easy to design, and you’ll love showing them off to friends and family.
There are a couple of different ways to make beaded fairy charms. The first method uses clear shrink film and rub-on transfers. For this project, you will need a sheet of shrink film, rub-on fairy transfers of your choice, a 1/8 inch paper punch, ¼ inch wide satin ribbon, craft scissors, a baking sheet, a spoon, an unsharpened pencil, decorative glass beads, small needle-nose pliers, a 4 mm jump ring, and a 6 mm jump ring.
Begin by placing the rub-on fairy transfer right side down on a sheet of shrink film. Use an unsharpened pencil to gently rub the back of the fairy graphic, transferring it to the shrink film. Make sure you have gone over the entire image, and carefully lift off the transfer paper.
Next, you will need to cut out the fairy using a sharp pair of craft scissors. Cut carefully around the edges, and use a small paper punch to make a hole in the top center of the charm.
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, and place the fairy charm on a baking sheet on the center rack. Bake it for approximately 2 minutes. When you take it out, set the baking sheet on a wire rack. If the charm has become curled around the edges, use a spoon to carefully mold them back into place. Allow the baking sheet and charm to continue cooling.
After the fairy charm has completely cooled, remove it from the baking sheet. Open the 6 mm jump ring with a small pair of needle-nose pliers, and run it through the hole in the charm. Attach the 4 mm jump ring to the larger one, and use the pliers to close the opening.
Measure a length of ribbon appropriately sized for your neck, wrist, or zipper pull, and cut it off. String the ribbon through the 4 mm jump ring. Before tying the ends together, surround the charm with colorful glass beads of your choice.
To make these beaded fairy charms you will need white polymer clay, liquid polymer clay in colors of your choice, a small paintbrush, polymer clay varnish, a polymer clay fairy mold, 1/8 inch wide satin ribbon of appropriate length, a small knife, decorative glass beads, a toothpick, waxed paper, and a baking sheet.
Begin by filling the fairy mold with white polymer clay. Make sure the entire mold is full, and trim off the extra clay using a small knife. Carefully remove the molded fairy design. If you have trouble removing the clay from the mold, place it in the refrigerator for about 15 minutes before attempting removal. Place the charm on a baking sheet, and use a toothpick to make a hole in the top center. Put small amounts of liquid polymer clay on s sheet of waxed paper, and use it as you would paint, to add color and details to the fairy charm. Bake the finished charm in a 275-degree oven for approximately one-half hour.
Allow the baked fairy charm to cool completely, and remove it from the baking sheet. Apply polymer clay varnish if desired, and allow it to dry. String 1/8 inch wide satin ribbon through the hole in the charm, and surround it with beautiful glass beads. Tie the ends of the ribbon together to complete the project.
