How to make your own craft topiary

Topiaries are one of the most beautiful plant arrangements, whether they are artificial or comprised of fresh flowers and plants. Many people are now using topiaries for decorations at weddings, banquets, and other large affairs for their beauty and to present something different that can be customized as easily as a flower arrangement with different colored flowers and pics to fit any theme or color scheme. If you have a florist create a topiary for you or if you purchase one already made, you are sure to spend quite a bit of money when the materials needed to create one can be bought for a fraction of the cost. It is so easy to create your own topiary, you may even want to make them for craft fairs and make a little money!

To get started making your topiary you will need:

A flower pot, size depends on how large your topiary will be.
Styrofoam or floral sponge block
Styrofoam ball
Moss
Dried flowers, silk or fresh if you will be using the topiary right away
Curly branch of wood
Spanish moss
Scissors and knife

With the knife, shape your floral sponge or block of Styrofoam to fit into the flower pot without sticking up over the top. Put stick into the middle of the Styrofoam.

Cut the stems of your flowers to about 2-3 inches and insert them into the foam ball, arranging them so that the ball is covered completely and that none of the flowers stick out further than any of the others. You can add colored ribbons, artificial birds, greenery, beads, pin on sequins, or anything else your imagination can conceive. If your topiary has artificial flowers or dried ones, you can glue on ceramic or plastic decorations as well.

Push the flower-covered ball onto the stick at the center of the ball, making sure it is balanced well as to not tip over the pot. Place Spanish moss around the base of the stick to cover the foam.

You’ve just made your own topiary! Now sit back and listen to the rave reviews!
