Vertical window blinds are most often used to cover patio doors or other large and tall window areas. They come in a variety of long lengths and widths, and they can be custom ordered to fit any size window or door. Vertical blinds work more or less the same as any other type of blind does.
They can be opened and closed in order to control the amount of light that enters into the room from the window or door. They are also effective in providing privacy from nosy neighbors.
Vertical window blinds are basically made up of a main head rail that has many long, thin vanes or slats hanging from it. The blind gets its name because the vanes hang in a vertical position. The vanes, or slats, as they are sometimes called, are made with a fairly rigid plastic, heavy fabric, or a metal material. While the blinds are covering the window or door, the slats can be turned a full one hundred and eighty degrees. Or, if you want a full view of the outside, vertical window blinds can be moved aside, just like with fabric drapes.
If you have vertical blinds in your house, apartment, or business, as with any other working device, they sometimes will need to be repaired. You can usually make common repairs yourself, and save yourself some money in the process.
Pets, small children and just plain old age and use can break the vertical slats on your window blinds. But, if a plastic, fabric, or metal vane becomes broken or otherwise damaged, it can either be repaired or replaced. If a slat breaks off from the main head rail, you can purchase vertical blind clips. These clips are made of durable metal, and they can reattach either a curved or a straight vane.
Vertical blind clips don’t need glue to adhere to the vane. Instead, they are slid over the end and then pressed together onto the slat. Then, to rehang the vane, turn it so it’s in the same direction as the vanes that are already hung on the header. Grab the top of it, and place the top of the vane into the header, then pull it down gently to secure it into place securely.
If the window blinds are made of plastic or metal, you’ll need to feed the spacing chain back through the hole in the repaired vane. Then, feed the chain through the rest of the slats that are beside it, clear through to the end.
Sometimes, a fabric vane can lose its weighted insert. It needs it to keep the fabric vane from curling up. These weights can be purchased and can be easily replaced. Simply slide the new weight all the way into the fabric pocket. Then, clip the chain to it.
Another common problem with vertical window blinds is the cords wearing thin or breaking off. To repair this, you’ll need to remove all of the vanes from the main headrail. Then, you’ll need an assistant to help you hold the headrail while you unhook it from the mounts. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions on the cord package. Basically, though, you’ll need to remove the old cords and fasten the new ones on.
