How to fix a bike tire

Where is the damage to your bicycle tire?

This is important to know before you fix it. Is the tire worn out? Is there something in your tire? Has the tire been punctured?

If the tire tread worn out, you must purchase another tire. The next step would be to separate the tube from the tire. Check the tube to see if there is any damage to it. If you don’t see any obvious damage, press on the tire and listen to it to see where the air is escaping.

Once you find out where the damage is, now is time for you to repair it. You can purchase a bike repair kit at any retail store if you can’t find it where the bikes are look where the waterbed repair kits are. They do the same thing the bike repair kits do. Repair kits usually contain a patch, glue, and a tool to apple the patch with.

If you don’t want to purchase a kit, you may find that anything that is rubber or vinyl will repair it also. You can use any kind of glue that attaches the pieces together effectively. Read the directions on the bottle to determine if the glue you use will be effective.

Use an emery board or sandpaper to make the tube or tire rough. Apply the glue to the area you prepared. Then apply the patch to the glue. Apply pressure to make sure it is sealed tightly.

You can proceed to reattach your bicycle tire. If the tire is still not fixed you may have to fold and buy a new tube. Or you can attempt to patch it again. Or patch the other spots.

If you don’t want to purchase a new tire, you can find a bicycle repair shop that will repair your tire or sell you a used one.
