You don’t have to compromise your health to eat out.
The first thing you should do when you eat in a restaurant is to ask for a take-out box. Put half of your meal into the box and save it for another day. Typically, the portion-sizes in the restaurants tend to be too much.
The next step would be to look at your menu. When choosing your food pays attention to the descriptions and the names of the food. Avoid fried food. Avoid food with cream sauces. Avoid foods that have descriptions with buttery, crispy, breaded, savory, and sinful in the description. Look for items that say baked, stir-fried, steamed, boiled, and grilled. Be picky. Ask them to leave the sauce off or put it on the side. If you choose the main item that is high in fat, choose a side dish that is low-fat. For example, choose a baked potato (skip the sour cream and butter) instead of French fries.
The next step will be when ordering an appetizer. Remember to avoid the same descriptions as above. If you choose a salad, ask for a low fat or no fat dressing. Skip the bacon bits and cheese. Either skip the bread or avoid buttering up your bread. Soup may be a nice alternative to the typical appetizers.
While you are waiting for your food, drink plenty of water. This will prevent you from eating any excess food. Remember: you have the take out box you don’t have to eat all of it.
Skip dessert or choose a low-fat food as an alternative. This could include fruits or sherbet. Some restaurants may have a low-fat dessert as an alternative.
